Tax Information

🇺🇾Uruguay Jus Sanguinis

Under Law 19.362 (2015), Uruguay grants natural citizenship to children and grandchildren of Uruguayan citizens born abroad. This is one of the most generous jus sanguinis programs in Latin America — extending to the grandchild level. Great-grandchildren are not eligible. No language requirement. Dual citizenship permitted.

Many of our clients combine a Uruguay residency with a citizenship claim through their ancestry. European countries like Italy, Ireland, Romania, Poland, Hungary, and Croatia offer citizenship by descent — some with no generational limit. Latin American countries including Uruguay, Panama, and Paraguay also recognize jus sanguinis.
